Online archival access for SMH and The Age
UNSW has a licence for two databases providing access for online newspaper archives: Factiva and Newsbank.
The problem is that they do not provide deep archival access.
On Factiva:
Sydney Morning Herald: content available from September 1986
The Age (Melbourne Age): content available from January 1991
On Newsbank:
Sydney Morning Herald: content available from September 1999
The Age (Melbourne Age): content available from September 1999
Researchers seeking access to SMH content before these dates should be aware that the National Library has a licence providing access to the SMH archives for the period 1955-1995. But access is only available to researchers at the National Library. SMH content before 1955 is accessible (outside the National Library) via the Historic Australian Newspapers Collection, which provides access to the SMH for the period 1842-1954.
Researchers seeking access to the Age before 1991 should make use of Google News Archive Search, at:

Book Review Digest Retrospective 1905 – 1982
UNSW Library now provides access via Sirius to the database Readers’ Guide Retrospective 1890-1982.
Readers’ Guide Retrospective is a database containing comprehensive indexing of the most popular general-interest periodicals published in the United States and reflects the history of 20th century America.

New McKinsey report on international defence procurement
A recent report produced by McKinsey, the global consultants, highlighted some international benchmarking data seeking to measure performance in defence procurement. It is interesting for Australia’s place in this comparison.
The report is a special issue of the journal ‘McKinsey on Government’.
The Academy Library has received a copy from McKinsey and it is available to be borrowed from the Library’s Defence short loan collection on the Ground Floor (at DefCol)
It can be found in the Library Catalogue by searching for: ‘McKinsey Defence Procurement Report’
ISEAS e-book collection
One of the most authoritative sources of monographs on Southeast Asia is the highly regarded Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), based in Singapore.
ISEAS publishes material on political, economic, security and strategic issues in the Southeast Asian region. While the Academy Library has been purchasing many of the monographs published by ISEAS in print format; up to now only a handful have been available as e-books.
UNSW has just acquired the ISEAS e-book collection, which will now provide online archival access to 215 ISEAS monographs published between 2001 and 2009.
Catalogue records for all these e-books will shortly be added to the UNSW Library Catalogue.
International Studies Online
The Academy Library Catalogue now provides access to International Studies Online (a.k.a. International Studies Encyclopedia) — search on either in the Library Catalogue.
