Looking for something to do during the hols? Why not visit Behind the Lines: The Year’s Best Cartoons 2011 at the Museum of Australian Democracy, Old Parliament House? Exhibition opens 14 December and celebrates Australia’s wonderful tradition of political cartooning. Published in newspapers, journals and online, cartoons are part of the public record of a nation’s political life. Each cartoon is a snapshot of the major events and personalities of the last year. With wit and wisdom they provide an opportunity to reflect on the state of Australian politics and expose the robust nature of Australian democracy.

Remembrance Display – Past through to the present

This Friday the 11th of November marks Remembrance Day, “the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18).
The Remembrance display at the Academy Library shows that for us as a nation, Remembrance is not restricted to one location or one time period in history.
In Every Home: The Australian Women’s Weekly (1933-1982)
Pop along to the National Library of Australia and have a look at this exhibition. 
‘In Every Home’ reveals how the iconic Australian Women’s Weekly magazine has influenced Australian, particularly Australian women’s society, and become an imbedded part of Australian culture. reflecting Australian culture over a fifty year period.
The exhibition runs from the 5th of August 2011 until the 5th of August 2012.
The National Library has also undertaken digitization of the Women’s weekly and made it available online.

In 2011, the Defence Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) will again partner with the University of New South Wales, Australian Defence Force Academy in the hosting of the 2011 Military Communications and Information Systems (MilCIS) Conference. The conference will facilitate a continuing interface between Department of Defence employees, contractors, industry, customers and researchers to discuss solutions that meet the needs of the warfighter — specifically to discuss current and developing technological capabilities, initiatives, and operational requirements.
