Web gateways – ISN

International Relations and Security Network

There are some very useful networks that act as gateways to open access resources, the International Relations and Security Network is one of these. It is their stated intention  to become the world’s foremost open access knowledge repository in international affairs and they are well on the way to this goal.

So if you want to find information from a wide range of well regarded ‘think tanks’, NGO’s  and other organisations from around the world in one place then you should use this site.

You can focus by region or by subject and you can also choose a current affairs approach or a publication/archival approach. While the main subject focus should be easily interpreted from their name they do have a wider interest than just defence and security. They are also not as European/North American centric as they were in the past and they claim to be politically non-partisan, so a range of world views should be available.

This network acts as an information aggregator but of course it is not exhaustive,  so some additional individual organisational searching may be necessary, however the major trends and publications should be captured by this site.

The release is set to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Administration.

A Diane Sawyer special for America’s ABC 20/20 program is also scheduled. The ABC’s website has some early archival footage as a teaser for their Tuesday night 2 hour special and the program should become available for internet viewing from the 20/20 site.

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library which was the custodian of the historic tapes also has available a digital archive of  material related to John F. Kennedy and his administration.

4 Corners - ABC Television

’50 years Four Corners : your stories, our history’ is on ABC1 tonight at 8.30pm.

The documentary is a reflection of Australian society through the eyes of ABC’s 4 Corners journalists over the last five decades. The program will examine the five themes that link the episodes: crime and corruption, social change, indigenous affairs, war and conflict, immigration and politics.

A selection of reports and episodes from each decade will also be broadcast on ABC News 24 on Sunday night (10.10pm) over the following 5 weeks.

Simultaneously the ABC will launch a dedicated 50 years of 4 Corners Archive that will showcase the key stories, people and events.

The ABC intends the website to serve as  a valuable multimedia resource available to all Australians. For more see the ABC newspage here. The usual 4 Corners Archive is available from here.
